PC4:郄門 xī mén xi-cleft gate

•郄 xī : cleft, crevice

•門 mén : door, gate

•PC-4 is the cleft-xi point of the hand jue yin and is located in a cleft formed by two ligaments.

Location 部位:

On the anterior aspect of the forearm, between the tendons of the palmaris longus and the flexor carpi radialis, 5 cun proximal to the palmar wrist crease.

•Note 1: With the fist clenched, the wrist supinated, and the elbow slightly flexed, the two tendons become more prominent. PC4 is located 1 cun distal to the midpoint of the line connecting PC3 with PC7

xi-cleft point (希穴)

•Indication 主治:

Pain in the heart and chest, hematemesis, epistaxis, heat in the five palms, panic.

Action 功效:

Clear and drain heat (泄熱) from the jue yin channel

quieting the heart (寧心)

downbearing counterflow of qi (降逆)

dispelling stasis and quickening the blood (祛瘀活血)

•Notes:

According to Dr. Wang Ju-Yi (王居易) because of the association of hand jue yin with blood and therefore the myocardium. at this point we can find palpable changes in case of arteriosclerosis or angina pectoris. Thus, its important to palpate both hand jue yin and hand shao yin channels in order to determine which channel is abnormal in case of heart disease.
