Chinese medicine for the little ones with ear infections

Ear infection (also called acute otitis media) is an infection of the middle ear
and is one of the most commonly childhood diseases to see in the clinic and one of the least pleasant for the child.

Laser Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help with this โœจ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ™

Due to the anatomy of their skull and its development, children are more likely than adults to get ear infections. Ear infections are often accompanied by fluids in the ears and in many cases are actually the cause of the inflammation itself.

In an ear infection, narrow tubes that run from the middle ear to high in the back of the throat (eustachian tubes) can become swollen and blocked. This can lead to mucus build-up in the middle ear. This mucus can become infected and cause ear infection symptoms.

The treatment has 3 stages:
1. Acute stage during the infection
2. In between episodes
3. Chronic stage – to strength the immune system and digestive system.

What the treatment in the clinic can do?

In the acute stage, combined with medications (if needed) and help to reduce fever and pain and calm the child.

In between episodes, in case there are several ear infections one after one, the treatment can improve and reduce the fluids in the ear and strength the associated systems. The same is true for chronic stage as well.

Useful tips for the parents:

1. Massage your child! Gentle massage (You can use soft tooth brush) behind the earlobe and around the ear and towards the temporal scalp area. between 10-30 times (depending on the child’s age) on both sides of the head.
* Not during an acute ear infection.
2. when there is an accumulation of mucus in the nasal passages, it can easily move to the ear and cause inflammation. Thus diet, massages and humidifier with essential oils can be useful. In future post I’ll share more info about clause No.2
