This article is based on my notes, which were written in between 2011-2012 while studying with the late Prof. Wang Ju-Yi [王居易 1937-2017] in his Applied Channel Theory Research Center in Beijing, China.

Dr. Wang has had a unique diagnostic and clinical applications regarding the application of the medical theory of acupuncture channels of Chinese medicine and especially the application of the diagnostic method of channel palpation.

The metal sound 商 [shāng] and the metal’s Well points to treat the throat

Both LI1 商陽 [shāng yang] and LU11 少商 [shào shāng] acupuncture points share the following:
The same character 商 [shāng]
The same point category – jing well point
and both points have indication to treat acute throat pain.

LI4 and the its strong qi effects

LI4 acupuncture point (合谷 hé gǔ union valley) is for sure, top-10 most commonly used point in acupuncture treatments.

This point belongs to the hand yang ming large intestine channel and has few very interesting alternative names, which highlight both anatomy and function of this point. However, some of its alternative names highlight other aspects of the point’s indications.

Thus it is recommended to know and understand the point’s different names in Chinese.
