LI8 下廉 [xià lián] Lower ridge

Name【名稱 mīng chéng】:

下 [xià] : lower

廉 [lián] : ridge

The point name refers to the location of the point on the inner edge of the radius, which refers to the ‘ridge’ of the arm. The Lower ridge simply indicates that this is the lower of two points (LI-8 and LI-9) that are both named ‘ridge’.

Some sources refer lower as the large intestine (the lower intestine), while upper as small intestine, and compared with the lower he-sea points on the leg yang ming stomach channel.

Location【部位 bù wèi】:

On the posterolateral aspect of the forearm, on the line connecting LI5 with LI11, 4 cun inferior to the cubital crease.

Note: LI8 is located at the junction of the upper one third and lower two thirds of the line connecting LI5 with LI11, 1 cun inferior to LI9.

Needling【針法 zhēn fǎ】:

Perpendicular needling, 0.5-1 cum depth. 3-5 Moxa cons and 5-10 minutes of moxa stick

Action【功效 gōng xiào】:

Coursing and draining yang ming channel heat 疏泄陽明經熱 [shū xiè yáng míng jīng rè]

•Indication【主治 zhǔ zhì】:

Headache, dizziness, eye pain, elbow and arm pain, umbilicus pain, inability to eat, abdominal pain, fullness of the lower abdomen, wheezing, dry lips, mastitis.
